SPIT AND PASSION

I found this book to be very rare and uncensored in the way it transmitted its message to the readers. The author present the topic of homosexually and relates it to family, religion, and daily life living in this 12 year girl whom is entering adolescent years. It can be very difficult first of all for hetersexual teens, I can't even fantum to imagine a young latin homosexual girl going through sexuality realization. It was interesting for me the Professor explained how maybe the author came up with the title of the book. It made sense about how physical contact between two people and lust is illustrated through th title. The author is very courage to express very intimate and person feelings she had faced.

                Latina Experience in Care Work 

In this essay by Mary Romero is discusses what care workers in general are faced in a their daily life regardless of race. Nannies are not only latinas it can be european immigrant, African Americans and American Indians as mentioned in this. What I learned from the reading is how the blacks even from when they where emancipated from slavery in the South, were still nannies for some whites. Women were headed to the workforce either office or factory workers, and the blacks in the south were still there to play the role of caring for the children. This occupation is very important to build a solid foundation in the family, because this job you can not put a value or wage amount. I heard this week on the radio that nannies get paid very good money in certain places and certain posh locations. Nannies provide a very important contributions to a solid formation to our society and creating productive citizens in the future since the parents are out in the work force. 

Blogueras: Latina Body Image

 

     When I heard these two latina women whom were interviewed in the blog I could hear so much disapproval of how society view women in general. Patricia Valoy wrote about how latina's are discriminated by her body hair. This bloguera was in a situation where she wasn't even aware she  had any hair on her face  and so much n her arms until she had to meticulously look at her herself. Valoy hadn't even known she had hair on her face until after the fact people pointed it in out in preparation for her wedding to someone for Egypt. To hear the blog, I could feel the astonishment these  two women felt when others pointed out there flaws that they didn't even know they had. The second bloguera Kassandra Pena expresses her concern about a new trend of women in general not only Latinas, this trend of the thigh gap. Pena explains how models and society in general promote this new trend and cause women to obsess with this look. Body shaming is not ok and its being done between women, and we should learn to support each other instead of criticizing which can lead to low self esteem.

When I read this article, It was the  first time I had a clear explanation of the term Latinx. Before taking this class I had not heard this term before. Latinx means a gender free way of referring to people of Latin America, not assigning the letter  "o" or "a" at the end like it has always been. It makes sense to says when we say American we refer to both male and female in the English language. So I guess they just want to create a universal term as a whole to the Latin American community. Now that the Latino community has began to adapt this non-gendered language we will have to adapt to this new form of way within our community.

How to Tame a Wild Tongue

Gloria Anzaldua

 I can relate with this author about how it is growing up as a women and speaking two languages in a society. Anzaldua was born in Texas in 1942 and at the age of 11 started working in the fields. She is a very inspiring person about how she managed to succeed through her strength, effort and determination. Like many immigrants and especially women in today's society, I think we have to prove a point more than men. I personally try to speak english at work and school but when I'm at home or with my family I try to always speak spanish. This author explain of how she was brought up to speak english without an accent because it was the right way for her to succeed. I also learned through this reading that there are several tongues in the Chicano spanish speaking language. I will continue reading more of this authors work since I find it that I can learn new things about the spanish speaking language.

" Y Que Pasara Con Jovenes Como MIguel Fernandez?" Education, Immigration, and the Future of Latinas/os in the United States

This reading was very interesting about how education and immigration play an important role in the Latino environment. Miguel Fernandez was very studious and wanted to be a productive person in the society. It also mentions how education is the key to a better life and this is what Miguel and many immigrants who come to this country what. Their dream of helping their family and surviving from what they have lived in their past.
